2. If you are in a position of power, you are happy. 4. Who we are--our essential character and temperament--is fixed and unchangeable.

I disagree with the 2nd and 4th statements. Power is not everything. It can lead you to your downfall. For example, the tyrant in Purple Hibiscus by Adichie was killed by a prostitute. Before that, this tyrant kept all money to himself and left most of Nigeria in shambles. In turn, students started to riot around schools, including the university that Aunty Ifeoma taught at. Prices in regular household objects rose to a point where barely anyone could buy them. I doubt that the tyrant was happy with a huge majority of Nigeria threatening to kill him.

Our essential character can be changed, for I have changed over the past 4 years. In 6th grade, I used to be a slob who wouldn't care less about her homework. I got bad grades, low expectations, and disappointment from my parents. But in 8th grade, I started to do my assignments and listen in class. I became a better student and a better person. I also started to be more friendly towards other people. I'm now in 9th grade and I'm surrounded by 7 people as friends. I have As and Bs and my parents are proud of me. I am still changing, because I have to adapt to the changes life is throwing at me.

Hits and Misses

To be honest, my greatest writing was all in the projects, just bits, and pieces. I only knew how to write with detail and formality, and had trouble with focusing on the main topic. For example, my Lord of the Flies literary analysis 'Microcosms of Our Society' came on and off the topic that humans are first and foremost relying on their instincts to make decisions. I couldn't even put in the quotes properly, much less make a proper citation. I at least did better in my research paper, but I had trouble with the outline of the paper. My research points were off, and I didn't have any good subplots to back them up. Moreover, my research cards had more irrelevant than relevant information. But at least I learned how to make a good research paper in the end. In conclusion, I can make papers using detail, formality and fleuncy. But I can't make a paper using basic instructions. I hope that in sophmore year I can learn how to make a proper paper.

Successful Reading

When I read Purple Hibiscus, I highlight what I think is important and write what is so important about the line. Other ways I effectively read is when I read the chapter more than once, so that way I can firmly grasp the details and what the book is trying to show or tell me. I also sometimes track down the characters, but I don't use just quotes. I find their behavior within the lines, and use that to understand them. For example, Papa is a very religious man who wants to have his family to be pure and innocent. So he keeps them close to him and keeps them away from 'sinners'. He is a holy priest on the outside, but an abusive man on the inside. Papa proved on it page five, where he tried to throw something Jaja for not coming to church.

The Perfect Body

145: Is there too much pressure on girls to have 'perfect' bodies?

Yes, I do believe that there is too much pressure on girls to have 'perfect bodies'. Everything where we go, we will have mannequins with waists not much bigger than their arms. We will also see photoshopped pictures of girls in magazines of on tv. This makes us want to fit in with the other girls who are already in the cycle. The cycle that makes everyone believe that skinny is the next big thing. And later on, you could die of eating disorder or starvation.

Other pressures to have 'perfect' bodies are in the clothes we wear. They are made for girls who have hourglass bodies and show off bellies for the rest of us. So we girls always make it so we can fit the tiny clothes and dress to impress. This can also cause death and severe starvation. I believe that numbers on a scale can also be a burden on a girl's shoulder. the scales are always used to determine who much a boy or girl weighs. When a girl sees this, she will usually want to lose weight. As the lady said during announcements, don't let the numbers control you.

Dark Abyss

https://science.nasa.gov/astrophysics/focus-areas/what-is-dark-energy

This is an Article made by NASA. It's about the dark energy of our universe. We all think that the universe will keep expanding. But around the 1990s, it became fact that our universe has barely any density. This might stop the universe's expansion and recollapse. This means that the universe has collapsed before. This surprised me. I thought the universe came into being with the Big Bang Theory. But apparently, the universe existed before Earth came to exist. This brings up many questions, like How was Earth created? or How was our universe created the first time? Anyways, there's a theory that was long forgotten that might explain why the scientist thought gravity was constant. It is Einstein's theory of gravity. It stated that gravity never changed, otherwise known as cosmological constant. The scientists have come up with a new theory. The solution to this theory is called dark energy.

With further research,  scientists have discovered that dark energy takes up 68 percent of our universe, while dark matter takes 28 percent. This practically changes many things about how we will now see the universe. For one, this means that Earth's materials are very rare, and can't be reproduced in any planet. Not yet, at least. Furthermore, it means that if Earth explodes, there would be no more life in our universe, except for the water streams on Europa. Yet more problems arise with the discovery of dark energy, The problem with finding out whether the quantity of dark energy within our universe in specific numbers continues. Physicists tried to solve the problem, with the numbers came out with 120 too many zeros. This comes to show that human beings don't quite know everything about the Final Frontier.

The 3/4 Freshman

It is the 4th quarter of my freshmen year, and I've learned quite a bunch. I've learned how to make a reflection, personal narrative, and research paper in the span of a month. Next time when I have something similar I will be able to overcome it. I have learned how to pull facts from the books I read and use them in the assessments I take.

LAUNCH Fest

Society is not all it used to be. Back in my father's time, everyone was nicer, and the problems are easy to fix. The reason of that was because the real problems were never shown to anyone. But now these problems have shown themselves, and it is our job to fix it. I have been listening to these problems through LAUNCH, and I've realized that the people have been causing these problems and haven't been fixing them. The higher-ups hide the problems from the citizens until they get out of control. These problems are social status, gender love, and nature.

Nowadays, humanity thinks of rich people wearing nice clothes and going to fancy places. That is not us for most of the time, but people have created a stereotype from watching movies. Mainly Disney is creating the stereotype that all girls need to be skinny to be pretty. Another example would be gender love. Gender love involves gay love, lesbian love, and transgenders. I don't know about you, but I support all of these categories. Each of these categories was about love, and people are to be free to choose who they love.

Lastly, we are putting in danger the wildlife. The trash we throw in the water is washed over to wild environments like swamps and lakes. Then the plants around New Orleans give off carbon monoxide that deteriorates the ozone layer.

Black Butler: The Darkness with the Light

Black Butler was a manga later made an anime created by Yana Toboso. The story takes place in the 1880s in the United Kingdom. He draws/writes about a boy named Ciel Phantomhive, with his mother and father whose name is Vincent Phantomhive. The mother's name is unknown. The Phantomhives are high-class nobles who are on the outside own a toy making company for children called Funtom. But the Earl Phantomhive, the head of the family, as to be known as the Queen's Guard Dog. The Queen's Guard Dog is to eliminate the Queen's worries and dispose of the evil that threatens the Royal Family or the United Kingdom in general.

When Ciel was 10, a fire burned down the Phantomhive mansion, killing both Vincent and Mrs. Phantomhive. Ciel was taken from the mansion to a human trafficking system. He was in this system for a month before Ciel was shipped to a cult for a special ritual. The ritual was performed, and a demon came out of it. But instead of making a contract with the cult members, the demon made a contract with Ciel. They both decided if Ciel can have revenge on whoever started that fire, then the demon can eat Ciel's soul. Ciel named the demon Sebastian Michaelis and had him be his butler in his new manor. Ciel is now the new Earl Phantomhive, therefore has to do the job of the Queen's Gaurd Dog. But the story has just begun. Ciel is now in charge of finding his parents' murder and the criminal in each job given to him by the Queen. How will he handle it? Find out by reading the manga.

Be WIth You- Mondays

http://www.allreadable.com/a8b3Kkif

This is a love song about how a boy and a girl want to go to that special place and live together forever. Most of this song uses the technique of repetition, where the main verse is used three times within the song. And when he describes the special place to be shining like the snow, there is a simile. And near the end of the song, there is a line that states "You can fly away, into my heart". That was personification because humans can't fly, not without machines anyways.

Poem

Euphony, slant rhyme, metaphor,

She is the beautiful moon,
while I am the sun.
She causes men to swoon,
She has all her fun.

Her hair starts black
and ends with white,
I wear slacks,
Her dress catches the light.

Her smooth skin smells of roses,
As I reek of labor and sweat.
She sits and watches,
And stares at my assets.

We are opposites,
like fire and water,
And although she loves me,
I love another.

The Muslims

The Muslims were followers of the priest Muhammed in the religion Islam. A Muslim's main priority is to contend or to defend the belief in Islam. The Muslims were at first peaceful in spreading the religion, but later became militants and spread Islam by the sword. They spread Islam over the Persian empire, Byzantine Empire, and part of Spain. The land that they conquered became known as the Muslim Empire. The Muslims engaged in many battles during their time.

In fact, they were part of the Crusades later on during the Muslim Empire. The crusades back in the day were a series of battles in which land was either taken or stolen from the Christians or Muslims. For example, the Christians took back Jerusalem during the 1st Crusade.

Research benefits and problems

I love that my topic is science and history related. The Scientific Revolution was great for all, whether it be the high classes or the locals. It just touches me that knowledge can easily be spread and benefitted upon. For example, when Harvey Williams made his discovery on blood circulation in the 1700s, it led to the making of the world's first vaccine. This vaccine cured smallpox, and that disease become known as the first to be eradicated by mankind.

Yet with all the information, I have acquired, I have yet to fully understand the writing process. My conclusions turn out to be a summary of the intro, and I didn't pull my point out of it. I just hope I can make a better paper in the future.

ATDPTI Response 2

I think that the story took a good turn. I love how Junior finally made a friend and an intelligent friend on top of that. I also love how his name is Gordy. I used to have a friend that had that as their nickname. But I feel sad that Junior and Rowdy aren't getting along. They were friends, but the problems of race and poverty got in the way. But the big bang of this reading session was the metaphorical boner and Penelope puking the bathroom. Both of these things are very related to my life. Not that I puke in the bathroom or anything, it's just that sexual references and racist comments usually come from my closest people.

Falling Through the Colors

I was falling. I felt the lungs inside me failing. My eyes were closing. I felt like I was going to die. But if I was about to die, why was everything so bright and colorful during the process?

I looked in the mirror. It had been exactly 4 months since I have worn a bathing suit, and my family didn't like it if I showed off too much skin. But here I was, with a navy blue one piece. I walked to the edge and had my back face the depths. The space behind was shifting back and forth like crystals, one second blue the next silver. It looked so beautiful, I often wondered why people couldn't stay forever in those depths. Then I wondered, what's stopping me from doing that? I allowed myself to fall backwards, and suddenly I was hidden in the colours. I kept falling to rock bottom, and after a moment I started to hurt. I was falling. I felt the lungs inside me failing. My eyes were closing. I felt like I was going to die. But if I was about to die, why was everything so bright and colorful during the process? As the light turned brighter, I started to hurt more. The light then became too much, and I was then pulled out of the shifting colors. Something pushed against my chest, and I stopped hurting. My mother was staring at me with a worried expression.

"Don't you ever drown yourself in the pool again, Megan."
END

Blood and Gunfire

In all of my years of reading, I have never read a book like this. Never was a book never exciting, nor intriguing. Alexie really puts reality in the book. The book starts with a kid with a disorder, then the father comes to kill his best friend. On top of that, there are limits to where the Indian folk can live and learn. To me that's not living, that's surviving. The kid, Junior, has an abusive friend and goes to a run down school. This is because he was born an Indian. My response to this is America is not all it's cracked up to be, and that the only way to make your way to the top is to benefit others and do what they say. For example, when Junior went to the school, he started a fight and was given a weird look. But when he blended in with the girl Penelope, Junior got some recognition.

The Research Process

So far my research process is coming along well. I found better sources to replace my terrible ones, and I made 35 notecards for my outline. I also found more interesting facts on my topic. If you don't already know, my topic is the Scientific Revolution. The Scientific Revolution isn't a specific event, but it was very important. It happened around the 14th century, when Nicolaus Copernicus countered Ptolemy with the heliocentric system. More ideas started the pop up, and soon people started to see a change of nature in the physical world. Two more events happened during this time, and they were called the Renaissance and the Social Contract. The Renaissance was an event in which artists spread their ideas to the outside world, mainly Europeans. The Social Contract was an event in which the people gave up free time to make governments. I believe the Scientific Revolution was important because different scientists left mankind to stare at different objects with a different perspective. I find that watching men and women learn, to see their gears turn is interesting.

How I Improved

When my first semester started, the work hit me like a brick. I didn't know what to do, since I rarely ever went to the teachers in middle school. I learned that asking the teachers for help is a good thing. I also learned to adjust your schedule to make the work and play fit in, and to study more than play. My tests at first came back as terrible, so I learned to read over the study material slowly. Now my tests and grades are better than the ones from middle school.

Problems of a 14 year old

Hi, guys. I'm sorry for not having a proper intro, but my blog this time is a bit personal. This blog is just for blowing off some steam, so please don't make fun of my problems.

My life to others is perfect. I have a huge house, a big family that loves me, and lots of friends. But around a year ago, my life changed. My mom and my dad sat Maddie and I down. We were on a ski trip in Colorado, and the trip was supposed to be fun. But in the end, it turned out to be the worst week of my life. The night before was a wreck. Tissues littered the floor, and I was curled up on the bed with tears rolling down my cheeks. Mom and Dad were fighting again, and I was in the crossfire once more.

There was always a routine to this. Maddie leaves, I get yelled at for being in the room, and Mom and Dad have a fight. We all sat at the table, where I knew the words were coming. The three of us wanted to hide it from Maddie to keep the perfect family, but we just couldn't hide it anymore. I cried once more as the tears left Mom's mouth. I ran outside, away from the world, and away from the cruel reality. I found a bench and sat, crying more because I will never be able to have a perfect family again.

"We are having a divorce." The words rang in my head over and over. "We are having a divorce." I was so vulnerable. "We are having a divorce." Nothing matters anymore.

Months pass and so many things have changed. Dad moved out of the house to buy another one. Mom is usually gone studying up north. I have gained more responsibility and weight to hold. Maddie is still oblivious to the entire situation we have. I try to stay happy, but I can't. Because nothing is the same, and nor will it ever be the same.

Progress on my Research

My topic on this research paper is the Scientific Revolution, and event during the 14th and 17th century. This topic caught my eye because of science itself. This subject is so captivating, and it's so hard to believe that science has brought humankind from chalkboards to iPhones. And to think, it all started with Nicolaus Copernicus arguing against Ptolemy's geocentric system.
So far my research is going fine.

My research is what scientifically important impacts made the Scientific Revolution so special. The problem is to find what impacts are scientifically important in my sources. One of my options is the keep looking, or to replace the useless source with a better one. Both options are extremely terrible options because I might be looking for nothing in the source. And I may not be able to find a good enough of a source in time for the flashcard deadline.
