HELLO MY POTATOES!!!! This is POTATO GIRL back to you with ANOTHER blog. And this is a very special blog, because it's about a lady named Candy Chang. She was my inspiration in 7th grade, and I want to share her story with you. Enjoy!
Candy Chang is a woman who has lost her loved one. So to find consolation with her neighbors, she painted an abandoned house in New Orleans with chalkboard paint. Candy then wrote the words,"Before I die, I want to ________. The results of these words astounded her. Responses were special and moving. For example, "I want to see my daughter graduate" or "I want to get my wife back. This attracted the attention of business companies, who wanted their own chalk houses. Today, there are 2000 of these inspirational objects around the world. You can find these houses in China, Iraq, South Africa, and Kazakhstan. Later on, the "Before I Die" book was published. It contains the stories of the chalk houses.
Candy was an inspiration to me, and I hope she will be an inspiration to you. And besides the chalk houses, she has started to make public art too. My personal favorite is the "Atlas of Tomorrow", made in Philadelphia in July 2016. I'm also interested in the Pecha Kucha being made in New Orleans. So as you can see, Candy, along with other moving artists, can make the world a better place. It showed me that art can have a voice in the world, just like the government. It also shows that it's possible for me to have a voice in this world.
